This year, fires have raged, waters have risen, wars have fought on, markets have crashed, the planet has warmed.
Farrah Fawcett, Michael Jackson, Roy Disney, Patrick Swayze, Natasha Richardson have left us.
Some might say that X Factor was a greater success than Copenhagen-15.
Others might say that Gray's Anatomy got more attention than the G-20 summit.
Almost ten years ago, on January 1st 2000--Y2K, we woke up amazed to see that our world was still intact.
The fact that our alarm clocks still buzzed, our modems still rang and our cars still ran in spite of predictions otherwise filled us with hope for the new century.
Ten years later, faced with new threats and challenges--or aggravated versions of the old ones, we have our work cut out for us.
We see the new year as an opportunity to detoxify and to start anew. Let's keep going. Let's start as we mean to go on.
