Weight Loss Secrets

Recent studies have shown that the number one cause of weight gain is overeating. Number one weight loss tip, eating less.

It’s a simple equation even for the least mathematically minded:

Energy in = Energy out.

Eat no more calories than you’re going to burn.

In spite of the simplicity of the math and the millions of dollars, hours, pounds, sweat and heartache which are consumed and expended to tackle the consumption conundrum, there are few mysteries or metabolic miracles.

The most revolutionary developments of the past few years have not been the fat-binding prescriptions like Alli and Appesat or the cutting edge surgeries, but instead, the studies that have shown that larger plate size leads to increased caloric intake which leads to a greater likelihood of weight gain.

My seemingly scathing attitude about the supersize situation should not disguise the fact that I consider and perhaps obsess about my own food intake daily, if not from meal to meal or moment to moment.

My understanding of the in and outs of caloric consumption does not make me immune to the stress of the scale or the seduction of the Snickers. This post was prompted by a show on Supersized Teenagers on ITV1 last night. The show featured children who ‘can’t stop eating’ and are going in for gastric surgery at the fully grown (oh forgive me) age of thirteen.

As I watched the show, munching on my evening bowl of cornflakes, I begged the screen for an answer, ‘why don’t they just eat less?’ and then returned to the kitchen for round two of Kellogg's.
